'3 Spirit' has been described as an epic and emotional tour de force, full of trademark emotion and energy that's come to be loved and expected from industry veterans Dale Corderoy, Dan Apps and Phil Collins. Being on the road together the trio have been influenced and engaged by crowds, cultures and dance enthusiasts internationally and from all of their experiences, they've organically pieced together 3 Spirit from their live performances and DJ appearances. From the second the track starts to the final moment the inspiration and feelings that help put this track together are clear to see, quite simply its journey you will not want to miss.

This is the first track i have personally heard from Corderoy in a while and was happy to see some familar names in the remix package. Here is a full breakdown of each track.

Original Mix

This mix has been getting some support by Above & Beyond on their Trance Around The World Radio Show and that is where I first got to hear this track before I got it to review. I have to say I really like this track. The melody is very simple and is used sparingly alongside some very nice and somewhat funky percussion. What I like about it most is the overall sound that is produced. Even though there is no massive breakdown and the melody is quite understated, it is a very enjoyable track with quite a lot of textured sounds going on at the same time without sounding overly clustered like a lot of tracks do. I would also like to point out that the more you listen to this track the more you will like it. It may just feel like a ‘standard’ track at first, but it definitely has a hidden beauty. Very impressed with this and hope more DJ’s pick up on it.

Beta Blokka Remix

I was really surprised when I first put this mix on as it was labelled house and almost instantly I thought ‘minimal’. This definitely has the trademark minimal techno sound to it that has become very popular over the course of the last few years. Nice rolling percussion and mellow pads, with some nice sounds coming in the background for effect. The breakdown in the track is quite nice as well, then the big bassline coming in halfway through taking the track in a different direction. I think this part ruins it to an extent as it is a little overpowering and takes the minimal nature away in favour of the raw bassline. Still a very nice remix which shows how much further the EDM scene is coming together, I hope it manages to gain some interest from the more tech influenced DJ’s out there.


Ben Gold Remix

After listening to this remix you will know why Ben Gold has labelled it his ‘Raw Remix’. Right from the off the bassline is as raw as they come and extremely infectious as well. I must admit I am not normally a fan of the tech-trance sound whereby a track has the raw techyness on the build up, a melodic breakdown, and then straight back into the techy basslines, but as this track starts as it means to go on and keeps the breakdown pretty short it just works. This would work great on a harder dancefloor and if you were a fan of his previous remix work on Introvert/Extrovert you will almost certainly like this.

Steve Birch Remix

Steve Birch has turned out the ‘tranciest’ mix of the bunch here and helps make a quite well rounded pack of mixes. However, unlike the Ben Gold Remix which really surprised me, this failed to impress me too much. The thing which lets it down is the arrangement; the breakdown feels to short and because of this it just feels like one big intro/outro. To be fair to Steve the breakdown is quite short and the melody is simple anyway, it’s just that the other mixes suited this a lot better.

Overall

This is a very solid release with such diversity across the mixes. My pick of the bunch would definitely be the Original, but I would also play the Ben Gold Remix in a later set and was quite impressed with the Beta Blokka Remix. I don’t normally like remi packages with more than a couple of mixes, but with diversity like this who can argue.
